Mimi J has a wealth of experience in the performing arts, having performed professionally since the age of 5. Mimi’s personal theatre experience ranges from leading roles in musical theatre, plays, Shakespeare, film, TV, voice over, and as a solo recording artist for numerous projects both in the UK and USA, where she still regularly works as a recording artist.
Mimi J has directed and co-directed many musical theatre productions, including Oliver, Annie and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Last year she co-directed a new play, called ‘Mum!’ which was written by Ginny Evens Pollard and Karen Morden and was performed at The Lion and Unicorn theatre. In 2019, Mimi will be producing a play she has written, called ‘Day after day ETC…’ which is about living with an eating disorder, tackles adult bullying and its effects on mental health issues, such as depression and also looks into societies role in duty of care towards others. Mimi J also has another 7 productions on her schedule as well as working on Accalia Arts Festival.
Mimi is also an extremely talented writer. She has a number of monologues on the circuit and she is producing a play in early 2019 called ‘Mental Ambition’ which is a production filled with short plays, including her monologue ‘A Bee in the Rain’ and a short play ‘Wrong Turn to the Right’. In 2017 Mimi produced a new play reading event for new playwrights which was highly successful, and it 2018, Mimi produced an event at The Actors Centre, ‘Writing Plays Right’ which was part of the John Thaw initiative.
Mimi J attended a performing arts boarding school, where she excelled in all subjects. Having taken her GCSE’s early, graduating at the age of 15 with 7 A*, Mimi went on to train at The New York film academy in Los Angeles, graduating top of her year. She then Gained an ATCL Diploma in Musical Theatre from Trinity Guildhall. In addition to performing arts qualifications, Mimi also has 6 British Gymnastics coaching qualifications. She is a keen choreographer for gymnastics squads and dancers.
In March 2017. Mimi opened Anything Goez Productions, with a vision to provide opportunities for performers, in many areas of the industry, from comedy, new writing, full scale productions, singers, musicians, comedy sketch performers and improvisation groups. She is keen to help performers all levels of their careers, from seasoned professionals, to young performers at the start of their careers.
Earlier this year Mimi J teamed up with Victoria Howell and Megan Harrison to create The Big Fat Theatre Company, which is now a branded company with many exciting plans from 2019 onwards. The BFTC is focusing on breaking the stereotypical theatre that we see everyday and adding something new to the industry. We also believe in promoting body positivity and raising topics that we believe are often brushed under the carpet and remain taboo. All three ladies are very excited to be producing work that could shape the industry to be more open minded. Watch This Space!
